Fabulous New Mexico Vacations

Santa Fe, New Mexico is, without a doubt, a top-notch tourist destination, but throughout New Mexico there are many other attractions that make wonderful destinations for a weekend trip! Interested in visiting New Mexico? Read up on these fabulous destinations:

Taos Taos is a century-old artist colony. It served as the former and current home to many famous artists and well-known authors. This town, and its surrounding communities, has a gallery and shopping scene that cannot be beat!

Abiquiú – This petite village is best known for Ghost Ranch, the former home of master artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Today, the ranch houses several museums. Tours of O’Keeffe’s former residence and art studio are available with advance reservations.

Pueblos – All of the eight Northern Pueblos – Nambe, Picuris, Pojoaque, San Ildelfonso, San Juan, Santa Clara, Taos, and Tesuque – are not too far from Santa Fe. Check the calendar and visit on a feast day for a true taste of Native American culture!

Bosque del Apache As a gorgeous desert oasis, Bosque del Apache is home to an impressive variety of birds. Whether you’re drawn to hunting or wildlife photography, you will find it easy to fill a day or a weekend in this lush, natural paradise.

Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad – Built in 1880 and running ever since, this steam-powered, coal-fired railroad twists and turns its way through jaw-dropping scenery into the Rockies.

Perkiomen Trail: Put on your Hiking Shoes

Put on your hiking shoes or pump up your bicycle tires and hit the trail – the Perkiomen Trail, that is. The ‘Perky’, as it’s called by aficionados, provides a great way to immerse yourself in the glory of the natural world while working off excess calories and getting a great workout. It covers 20 miles along Perkiomen Creek, beginning in Oak and ending in Green Lane Borough. The majority of the trail occupies a former Reading Railroad bed and intersects the Schuylkill River Trail and the Audubon Loop. Hiking or biking along the trail gives you access to a variety of parks and historic sites, including Perkiomen Valley Park, the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove, Pennypacker Mills, and Evansburg State Park. If you traverse the entire trail, you’ll pass through the towns of Arcola, Collegeville, Schwenksville, Spring Mount, and Green Lane.
