Facts About Flax Seeds You Might Not Already Know

If you’re trying to improve your health and maintain a healthy diet, you may want to start incorporating flax seeds into your meals. These tiny seeds are said to be great for digestion and vascular health, and they may even help to prevent certain types of cancers. Here are just a few fun facts about flax seeds that you might not know.

  1. Flaxseeds have more omega-3 fatty acids than any other foods in the world. These acids remain stable for up to three hours in the oven, which means that you can bake flaxseeds into breads and muffins without losing the omega-3s.
  2. Flaxseeds have the highest amount of lignans of any other food. Lignans are fiber-related polyphenols that offer benefits similar to antioxidants and fibers, and they are beneficial to all humans.
  3. Flaxseeds provide support to the intestinal tract through their mucilage, or “gum” content. This water-soluble gel improves nutrient absorption into the small intestine.
  4. Flaxseeds are proven to reduce metabolic syndrome. Studies show that people who eat 30 grams of flaxseeds each day had a 20% decrease in metabolic syndrome over a 12-week period.
  5. By eating more flaxseeds, you can improve your cardiovascular system. These powerful seeds help prevent excessive inflammation in the blood vessels, keeping your blood pumping and keeping the body safe from diseases.

Gino’s Restaurant and Pizzeria: Tasty Slices in Norristown

Pizza is something there’s no shortage of in Pennsylvania, but everybody has a favorite spot where they claim the pie is a cut above the rest. For Norristown diners, that spot might just be Gino’s. For over 35 years, this family-owned Italian restaurant has been satisfying locals with hearty portions, delectable flavors and good prices. The food here is authentic Italian, not Americanized, and regulars praise the extensive menu. Some of the most popular dishes include the eggplant parmigiana, which is breaded to perfection and served with the right amount of cheese, as well as the lobster ravioli with crab sauce that has a generous amount of seafood in every bite. If you’re craving pizza, the pies here are top of the line, with a crisp, tender crust and an exceptional house-made sauce. Note that Gino’s, like many Pennsylvania restaurants, is BYOB.

Peanut Gallery Tavern: A Friendly Norristown Pub

There’s something comforting about a neighborhood pub – it can serve as a gathering place for times both happy and sad, and endure through generations. A great example is Norristown’s Peanut Gallery Tavern. This family-owned watering hole has been open since 1974, originally named the Cork and Crown. In 1992, its name was changed to the Peanut Gallery to reflect the owner’s lifetime love of peanuts. The second generation took over in 2005 and has been continuing the pub’s mission of good drinks, good food and friendly service. This place has a serious contingent of locals, but they happily welcome new faces. The jukebox is kept loud and the pool tables in the back are usually packed. The food is pretty standard pub grub, but their Buffalo wings are nice and spicy. The beer selection is decent, with some local microbrews on offer, and the bartenders mix inexpensive, strong cocktails. There’s nothing fancy about the Peanut Gallery, but they take care of business quite well.
