Slurp Up Something Different for Dinner at Pho Phi

When Pho Phi debuted a couple of weeks ago, less than two miles from Folio, it only added to the already vibrant culinary scene in Austin. The city is obviously known for keeping things "weird," and its eclectic mix of brick-and-mortar restaurants, food trailers, and food trucks certainly contributes. So Pho Phi fits nicely into the equation.

The Vietnamese restaurant is aptly named, since it serves up piping-hot bowls of pho. This classic soup is heartier than your typical chicken noodle. It's filled with noodles and veggies, plus the meat of your choice. Beef is the traditional protein, featured in many different versions (from tripe to meatballs), but you can also opt for chicken, seafood, or tofu in your pho. Save some room for iced coffee with condensed milk after you've eaten.

Shake Shack: Burgers, Beer and Sweet Treats

Thick, creamy milkshakes. Hot, crispy fries. Thick, juicy burgers. These are the key components of every Shake Shack, including the new location opened at the end of August near Folio. Shake Shack may be a nationwide chain, but even mixed in with the indie burger joints and food trailers in Austin, it still stands out.

That's because Shake Shack operates more like a local, independent business than a chain. This second Austin branch sources ingredients from local providers such as Kreuz Market, Kiskadee, Uchiko, and Uchi. So you can feel good about tearing into a ShackBurger, crafted from all-natural Angus beef (that means no hormones or antibiotics) with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and the signature ShackSauce. You can also opt for a vegetarian 'ShroomBurger instead, or a Lockhart Link "burger" featuring Kreuz Market's jalapeno-cheese sausage links. Add fries, a massive milkshake or cup of custard, and a beer for the full Shake Shack experience.
