Paisano’s Restaurant: Gourmet Italian Fare

Paisano's Restaurant serves a new twist on Italian cuisine in Rutherford. Since 1989, this Park Avenue restaurant has served only the finest Italian food. The menu includes cuisine from Northern and Southern Italy, with some unique pasta dishes you won't find elsewhere. Start with an appetizer like the Stuffed Eggplant
, Ginger Calamari
, or Tricolor Salad with endive, arugula, radichio, and pancetta. Try delicious pasta dishes like Crabmeat Ravioli
 with pink vodka sauce, baby shrimps, and spinach or the Fettuccine Mountain and Sea with wild porcini, shitaki mushrooms, and shrimp in a light cream sauce with spinach. Gourmet pizza, entrees, sandwiches, and seafood dishes round out the menu.

The service is friendly and attentive. Prices are a little high but worth it for the high quality meals. Paisano's Restaurant is also BYOB, so bring your favorite bottle of wine.

The Village Gourmet: An American Bistro

Located on Park Avenue a block from the Terrace, the Village Gourmet features classic American cuisine in a comfortable, bistro setting. Comfort and class are what you’ll see when you come in and sit in the dining room, with its great seating, warm wood décor and big windows giving you a view of the area. Regular customers tout the friendly and helpful wait staff. There is no bar but the adjoining store can offer a wide variety of wines and beers to enjoy with your meal. Or just bring your own bottle with you! Folks love the fresh bread and dips that come at each table, especially the pepper olive oil. And everyone will find a menu item to suit their palate.

Joeyness: Mediterranean Delights

In the mood to treat yourself to some fresh, organic Mediterranean food? Fast, friendly service by Joey – nicknamed Joeyness — and his mom make this a must if you’re hankering for some yummy hummus or a scrumptious falafel wrap. How about a gigantic grilled beef kofta wrap with tahini dressing? Yum. Also on the menu are meat and veggie platters served with Mom’s special rice with toasted vermicelli. If you’ve never heard of lamajun — Mediterranean style pizza — now’s your chance to give it a try. Joey’s a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, so he knows how to do it right. Prices are a bargain, especially for food of this caliber and generous portions.

Rebecca’s Restaurant: Authentic Cuban Cuisine in Edgewater

Rebecca's Restaurant has made itself a neighborhood favorite in Edgewater. This cozy, intimate spot is the perfect place for a romantic date night dinner. The menu features dishes inspired by Cuban and Caribbean cuisine. Start with one of the delicious appetizers like the Quesadilla stuffed with shrimp and chorizo. Regulars recommend the Ropa Vieja, a grilled flank steak in red wine, for your meal. The Coconut Shrimp is another popular item. End your meal with a decadent dessert like homemade bread pudding or espresso creme brulee. The service can be slow, so sit back and enjoy a leisurely meal full of flavor. Rebecca's is BYOB. Buffalo’s Chicken Shack: Delicious Wings

Buffalo’s Chicken Shack claims to have the best wings in New Jersey, and then backs it up with flavor. Located in nearby Wood-Ridge, Buffalo’s Chicken Shack has figured out how to bring great hot wings to the area. Don’t look for anything fancy here – the place is clean and has comfortable seating, but just walk up to the window to order. Here you will find wings with so many different sauces, you’ll have a hard time deciding. Whether you like sweet, spicy or savory, everyone will have a favorite wing. This is as good as you’ll get in Buffalo! You can also go southern with a plate of chicken and waffles, or try a burger or salad. Ordering takeout? Call ahead or order online.

Cafe Matisse: Tapas Style Dining

Cafe Matisse offers wonderful, tapas style meals in Rutherford. This romantic and cozy restaurant features a regularly changing menu based on seasonal ingredients but you can always count on a delicious meal. There are no traditional entrees here. It terms its offerings a "grazing menu": these dishes are larger than an appetizer but smaller than an entree. Choose either three or four courses. One of the courses is dessert while the others are from the savory menu. You can expect dishes like Mango Chili Glazed Chicken Wings, Pan Seared Cajun Spiced Cubed Tuna with Crab, Matisse Burger with BBQ Glazed Short Ribs, and Roasted Beet and Radish Salad. All the food is expertly prepared and served by a friendly wait staff. The meals may seem a little pricey, but they're well worth it for the wonderful experience.

Caffe Capri: Tasty & Low-Key in East Rutherford
