Benvenuto: Impressive Decor and Excellent Fare to Match

When you walk up to Boynton Beach’s Benvenuto, you’ll immediately be impressed. This is a veritable palace of a restaurant, with iron gates at the entrance, valet parking, and many other amenities. The facilities are beautiful, with sprawling, well-manicured grounds and a number of independent rooms that are used for special functions.

The menu is exceptional to match. Start your meal off with the amazing bleu cheese soufflé with beet reduction and toasted pecans, or opt for the braised Kuroboto pork belly with Brussels sprouts and rosemary syrup. Moving on to entrees, the pan-glazed salmon filet with purple rice pilaf is exceptional, as is the beef short rib with crispy sage polenta. Make sure to leave room for dessert: The molten chocolate lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream is out of this world. The bar also serves up expertly-created cocktails.

Prices are a little high, but this is a seriously magnificent restaurant.

Alco Capital Theaters: See Blockbuster Films on a Budget

If you’re looking for a great bargain in entertainment, grab some spare change and head down to the Alco Capital Theaters in Boynton Beach. This value-priced theater has been pleasing patrons for years with surprisingly well-kept facilities at a very reasonable cost. Regular ticket prices are just $8.50, but the real bargains come with matinees: Shows before 4 p.m. are just $6, and pre-noon shows are a seriously cheap $5.50. Despite the very reasonable prices, the screenings are rarely crowded, making for a much more comfortable and relaxing movie experience.

The projection quality is also fairly high, and movies on offer are first-run, not old flicks that have been out in theaters for some time. They also have one auditorium prepared for 3D screening. Some complain that the popcorn at the concession stands can be a bit stale, but you can always bring your own snacks if that’s an issue!

The Diner: South Florida Breakfast Food

The classic American diner is one of the country’s iconic restaurants, a comfortable, casual space to enjoy reasonably priced food in sizable portions with nothing too fancy. As you might guess from its name, Boynton Beach’s The Diner doesn’t step too far out of that footprint, which is fine by its patrons. Regulars rave about the American classics on offer here. In fact, The Diner is widely recognized as one of the best breakfast deals in town!

Go for an awesome five-egg omelet, which will satiate even the hungriest of diners. Other excellent breakfast options include the eggs with biscuits and gravy and the thick, perfectly crispy Belgian waffles. Chocolate chip pancakes also win raves. For lunch, locals recommend the house-made Angus beef burgers (opt for Cheddar cheese and bacon for a classic meal). Sandwiches are also solid, with the Double Monty a particular favorite.

The Diner is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Be warned: The wait for a table can get really long, especially on Sunday mornings as the post-church crowd congregates here.

Twirl a Fork Into a Plate of Pasta at Portobella

When you dine at an Italian restaurant, you go in expecting tradition. Portobella delivers that in spades. Opened by Victor Scarpulla in 1987, this place has a quarter-century of serving up awesome food under its belt, and locals are crazy about the pizza and pasta here.

South Florida isn’t really renowned as a pizza region, but the pies at Portobella are New York-style through and through, with a thin, crispy crust just solid enough to support an excellent sauce and your choice of toppings. Some favorite combinations from regular diners include the Caprese and the Portobella house special, but they’re all quite good. For entrees, the chicken parm is well-received, slathered in sauce and cheese. Pasta dishes also come highly recommended, with the linguine alla Vongole a favorite. Some complain that dinner prices can be a little steep, but you certainly get a lot of food for your money!

Located within the Boynton West shopping center, Portobella is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
