Cork Grinders: Baytown’s First Wine and Coffee Bar

Baytown's first wine and coffee bar, Cork Grinders is a popular spot to kick back and relax with a cold—or hot!—one. Boasting exposed brick walls and ductwork accented by cozy couches and a smattering of tables, the vibe at Cork Grinders is equally gritty and comfortable.

What you'll encounter upon arriving at this cozy cafe depends on the time of day. In the morning, for example, you'll see baristas behind the counter doling out fresh espresso, lattes, and breakfast sandwiches to patrons stopping by during the pre-work rush. As the sun sets, Cork Grinders makes its nightly transformation into a hip wine bar, where regulars congregate to choose from more than 80 different wines and an equally impressive number of locally brewed craft beers. Pair your libation with a cheese plate or a slice of molten lava chocolate cake.

Cork Grinders is open Mondays through Saturdays. Live music takes place every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening.

The Don’Key Mexican Food: Hoof It Over for Tasty Fajitas

It may have a silly name, but there’s nothing silly about The Don’Key’s Mexican food. This family-owned Mexican eatery started in 1984, and since then it’s perfected its unique style of Tex-Mex through its almost famous fajitas. The menu also includes delicious dishes like pollo poblano, tortilla soup, enchiladas, and many others. There are also discounted lunch specials on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. that will help you to break up the work day.

The Don’Key is colorful inside, but its dim lighting creates a fun and relaxing environment for a low-key dinner or for kicking back with a boozy Don’KeyRita. The dining room is filled with tables large enough for four, while the bar area has a few flatscreen televisions perfect for watching the big game.

Home Beauty Treatments You Can Make Yourself

Nothing feels better than getting a facial or a fresh blowout, but unfortunately, these types of beauty treatments can be pretty pricey. Luckily, you can mimic their results in your own home at The Broadwater, often by using common items that you already have. Here are a few rejuvenating beauty treatments that you can make yourself.

  1. Create a nourishing hair mask that restores each strand by combining common foods from the refrigerator. Simply mix together one egg yolk, one tablespoon of mayonnaise, 1/4 of an avocado, and two tablespoons of olive oil, and then let the mask sit on your hair for one hour before rinsing.
  2. Give yourself an at-home sugar scrub that sloughs off dead skin and leaves your body feeling smooth and rejuvenated. Combine equal parts coconut oil and brown sugar with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, then rub it all over the next time you’re in the shower.
  3. Do a DIY facial using a mashed banana mixed with two tablespoons of heavy cream, one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of flour, and one tablespoon of water. Let the mask sit on your face for 10 minutes before rinsing. The banana reduces redness and adds smoothness, while the heavy cream is very soothing and leaves a soft, supple feeling behind.
