Fioza: Local Coffee and Fresh Paninis

"Come thirsty or come hungry and Fioza Cafe will take care of you." So goes the motto for this trendy coffee and bubble tea bar in Houston. It pours locally roasted Fontana Coffee, the product of another independent business in Houston. Using careful brewing techniques and high-grade equipment, Fioza's baristas make everything from lattes to espressos.

Another chunk of the menu showcases various bubble teas, each teeming with Fioza's own artfully prepared tapioca pearls. Grab a bubble tea, hot or iced standard tea, or any other refreshing drink and use it to wash down one of the casual eats at Fioza. Its food menu includes paninis, deli sandwiches, and an array of pastries that are all baked fresh and in-house. Yelp reviewers particularly seem to enjoy the paninis, so try one stuffed with smoke turkey and basil pesto or grilled veggies and goat cheese.

Local Foods: Home to Some of Houston’s Best Sandwiches

Local Foods fills a unique niche in Houston dining by serving gourmet salads and sandwiches that are prepared with local ingredients and served in a bright, airy space. The walls and counters are lined with white tile, steel prep tables have been put on whimsical blue casters to serve as dining room tables, and brightly colored leather booths make Local Foods a bright and cheerful spot for lunch.

The service is casual and quick: you place your order at the counter and then take a number to your table, where a server brings your food out as soon as it's ready. And the food, well, regulars the sandwiches just might be the best around. Bite into the grilled chicken sandwich piled high with veggies and topped with a creamy sauce and served on a toasted pretzel bun. Or for something really decadent, try the tender, smoky duck confit sandwich with melted Swiss and micro greens.

Dieters are beginning to notice the boundless energy supplied by these nutritious and tasty foods, and there are a variety of unique ways to get your daily dose of grains. If you’re looking for new and exciting ways to incorporate grains into your diet, these simple recipes can help:

Couscous With Carrots, Walnuts and Raisins

Pesto Baked Polenta
Polenta is a spongy grain made from whole-grain cornmeal, and it can be flavored just about any way you like. In this dish, Parmesan cheese and pesto sauce add a bit of flavor without adding too many additional calories.

Savory Brown Rice
A healthier alternative to traditional white rice, savory brown rice pairs perfectly with just about any meat, vegetable or other main course. This one is seasoned with sodium-free chicken broth, black pepper and a few other simple seasonings, while mushrooms and onions add a little something extra.
