How to Organize Your Bedroom in 4 Simple Steps

The bedroom is supposed to be for sleeping, but for many of us, it’s also where we eat, where we work, and where we lounge around with the whole family. You bedroom takes a lot of wear and tear, but these four simple steps will help you to organize it with ease.

  1. Make your closet work for you. If your closet is overflowing with clothes and shoes, reassess what you need it to do. Add extra shelving if you have an abundance of sweaters, or invest in higher quality hangers if things are always falling on the floor. Having an organized closet takes a major weight off your shoulders.
  2. Keep furniture free of clutter. If your nightstands are covered in decorative knick knacks or personal items, minimize them. Keep only a few functional items on these surfaces, such as a bedside lamp or a jewelry box for storing rings and bracelets.
  3. Update your bed. Invest in a matching sheet and comforter set, or use a simple quilt for warmer weather. Having a full set that functions properly eliminates the need for lots of blankets and pillows that don’t match.
  4. Maximize storage potential. If you still need extra storage space, look in unexpected areas. Purchase a headboard with built-in shelves, or add rolling storage bins underneath your bed.

Seven Creative New Uses for Old Things

We all have those things lying around that we just can’t seem to part with, even though they haven’t served a functional purpose in years. If you’ve always wanted to find new uses for those old items, you might just love these DIY ideas:

1. Turn an old picture frame into a tray. Simply put a piece of colorful fabric or paper inside and stack jewelry, makeup, or candles on top.

2. Use an old rake as a jewelry rack. Remove the metal rake head and hang bracelets and necklaces from it.

3. Display vintage postcards in frames. Ask an older relative if you don’t have any yourself – that way, they’ll even add a bit of sentimental charm.

4. Turn antique saucers into drawer organizers. These small plates make the perfect place for change, safety pins, jewelry or keys.

5. Store kids’ toys in old soda crates. Antique lovers often collect these retro soda crates as decorations, but filling them with those loose toys gives them a more functional purpose.

6. Add tension rods to small, unused spaces. Turn those tiny nooks and corners into makeshift closets with the addition of a tension rod and hanging hooks.

7. Display kids’ schoolwork on old rulers. Hang a ruler on the wall and add wooden clothespins for a shabby chic wall display.

Do you long for the cold, snow filled days of winter all year long? If you're the adventurous type who loves the snow, why not plan a ski vacation this year? Break out those snow suits, dust off those skis, and hit the slopes at one of these top five ski vacation spots!

Jackson Hole, Wyoming
One of the best ski spots in the United States is Jackson Hole Mountain. This is the place for those serious about skiing. The mountain and roads are covered in snow all year round. On average, Jackson Hole receives over 400 inches of snow each winter. Steep slopes are perfect for more advanced skiers, but beginner and intermediate trails are also available.

Aspen, Colorado
All skill levels can have fun in Aspen with four different ski areas designed for beginners to advanced skiers. Spend your day traveling down the picturesque mountains and nights exploring the resort town filled with gourmet restaurants, boutiques, and museums. The resorts may be a little pricey, but the price is worth it for a luxury vacation. 

Fernie, Canada
This is one of the best ski towns in British Colombia, and also one of the lesser known spots. The slopes are rarely crowded, so will have plenty of room to glide down the hills.  Multiple hotels and resorts are available to stay out. After a day of skiing, make sure you check out all the great eateries and shops in town. 

Park City, Utah
If the mountains in Park City are good enough for the U.S. Olympic team, they're sure to please ski enthusiasts. The historic mining town is now a go-to destination for powder dry snow and steep mountains. If you're visiting in January, you may spot celebrities hitting the slope after the Sundance Film Festival. 

Zermatt, Switzerland
Want to ski on international soil? Travel to one of Switzerland's premiere skiing towns. Several mountains offer different ski experiences, like stomach-lurching drops and powder runs. Feel free to mountain hop during the day in the interconnected ski zones. You don't even have to leave the mountain for lunch with tons of mountain side restaurants.
