Landa Park: A Respite for Nature Lovers

If you’re a nature lover in the New Braunfels area, there are few better places to get in touch with Mother Nature than at Landa Park. This public park is a truly wonderful place to spend an afternoon, whether you’re looking to explore, relax or even get in your daily workout. There is a series of running and walking trails that wind their way through the lush greenery, while the long bridges that traverse the rivers add a scenic view to your route.

If you want to get an even closer look at the gentle waters, Landa Park rents out tubes for adults and children that enable you to spend the day floating along the river’s lengths. There are also paddle boats and areas where you can feed the ducks, and you can even fish from the sturdy piers with the proper license. Picnic areas provide shady spots for lunch outdoors, and the sand volleyball court is the perfect addition to any fun-filled day in the park.

Enjoy a Movie Under the Stars at Stars & Stripes Drive-In Theatre

Grab some lawn chairs and blankets, along with some snacks and head down to Stars & Stripes Drive-In Theatre and enjoy some movies and some nostalgia. It was not that long ago that theaters like Stars & Stripes were on the decline. However, with some good food at decent prices and a two-for-one deal that cannot be beaten, this theater has prevailed and remains one of the most popular spots in town.

Gates open at 6:30 p.m., and Stars & Stripes shows first-run movies starting around 9 p.m. every night of the summer and holiday season. When school is in session, they are open three to five nights a week. While you can see the screen from anywhere, it is best to come early to secure the spot you want. Then, you can enjoy a meal at the '50s-themed restaurant and the kids can burn off some steam on the playground before the movies begin.

Game-Day Eats Any Football Fan Will Love to Try

If there’s one thing all football fans can agree on, it’s that you have to have the perfect snacks to get you through the big game. The next time you have your friends over to Firewheel to watch some football, make these game-day eats that everyone will love.

Super Quick Chili [myrecipes.com]
While cooking chili may seem like an all-day affair, it doesn’t have to be when you have a recipe like this one. In just under 30 minutes you can create a perfectly spicy, flavorful chili and serve it in miniature bread bowls made out of store-bought dinner rolls.

Asiago-Artichoke Dip [bhg.com]
Make your usual cheese dip a bit more sophisticated with this unique but equally simple recipe. The addition of prosciutto and green onions gives the cheesy concoction a big burst of flavor, and you can serve it with your choice of bagel chips, toasted bread slices, or gourmet crackers for easy dipping.

Crispy Baked Chicken Wings [bonappetit.com]
If you want to make classic chicken wings a bit healthier, this baked recipe is a great option. Instead of frying the wings in a deep fryer, this recipe involves baking them in the oven with a complex ginger-soy glaze that’s still spicy enough to satisfy your hot wing cravings.

Uwe’s Bakery and Deli: Germany By Way Of New Braunfels

Uwe’s Bakery and Deli should have a warning sign on the door that discourages people on a diet from entering. Regardless of how much willpower you have, it's hard to resist the food and treats here. This place is designed to give you the feeling that you are in a restaurant in Germany. When you enter, the smell of brat waifs through the air and envelopes you as German music is played in the background.

Breakfast is served all day and lunch is served from 11 a.m. until the kitchen closes, usually around 3. The bakery stays open until around dinner time. Everything is made fresh on the premises. That is why it is so hard to leave without both dessert and a few loaves of bread. If you cannot make it into the brick and mortar store, there is a booth at the farmer’s market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tip Back a Pint at The Dodging Duck Brewhaus

Before they splash into your glass, the beers at The Dodging Duck Brewhaus never see the light of day. They originate in a 10-barrel brewery system housed at The Dodging Duck, residing in stainless steel tanks calibrated to exactly 34 degrees. That's until the beers make their way through chilled lines to the tap and slosh into pint glasses. From an IPA and stout to lighter ales, the craft beers have put Boerne on the map. This brewery has even brought home gold and silver medals from the World Beer Championships.

Patrons recommend downing a pint with the fried green tomatoes or antelope burger, two favorites from the kitchen. The menu encompasses everything from chimmichurri beef tenderloin to Thai lettuce wraps to bratwurst. Dine outside on the patio, where you can watch the ducks for which the brewery is named as they paddle around a pond, or sit inside one of the lake house-inspired dining rooms. There's also a huge wraparound bar where you can grab a pint and chat with The Dodging Duck's brewmaster.
