Humble City Cafe: Original Country Cooking

Since 1995, Humble City Cafe has been serving up homestyle Southern comfort food. In a historic building in Humble’s downtown, the rustic country decor matches the food. Diners love the complementary skillet corn bread that comes with every meal. The chicken fried steak and the catfish with cornmeal breading are customer favorites. It’s also a popular spot for breakfast which is served until 1 p.m.; expect a short wait on the weekend but you can pass the time browsing their country store gift shop. The staff are friendly and there’s a good chance you’ll meet the owner in the dining room.

838 Sushi: More Than Just The Basics

In the Humble area, 838 Sushi is the place to be for tasty Japanese. Not only does it cover the basics, but it offers a nice selection of unique meals. The reasonably priced bento box lunch specials come with soup, salad, an appetizer and California roll. Main meat choices include typical teriyaki as well as options like Nagano Duck, a duck breast marinated in Cognac-shoyu sauce, and grills miso seabass. If you come for the sushi rolls, the 1960 and 838 specialty rolls are customer favorites. The 1960 wraps crispy shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado, asparagus and more in a soy paper. If raw isn’t your favorite, 838 offers more than just sushi. There is a full menu of other Japanese entrees like Udon and tempura. The restaurant is always clean and tasteful Asian decor makes it an inviting space to enjoy a relaxed meal with friends. Come by during their all day happy hour from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and enjoy $3 rolls and $1 sushi.

For over twenty years, Amedeo’s Italian Restaurant in Kingwood has been known as Northeast Houston’s premier location for Italian dining. It’s a suburban destination with a downtown feel, offering excellent meals made from fresh ingredients. Amedeo’s is known for delicious food at a great value – everything is reasonably priced. Regulars recommend staring with the Spinach Gnocchi in a prosciutto cream sauce. The pasta entrees are great for a comforting meal – try the Tortellini alla Genevose with beef, prosciutto and mushroom stuffed pastas in a Parmesan cream sauce. If you love spicy regional-inspired dishes, try the Southwest Rigatoni. Other entrees feature tender veal dishes and seafood favorites like Scampi and Bouillabaisse.
