Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center: Get Back to the Area’s Roots

The Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center is a 300-acre nature preserve that offers area residents a place to enjoy nature — free of charge. The diverse landscapes throughout the spacious park include white sand beaches that border Spring Creek, wet swamps, and a hardwood forest, and there are more than 6 miles of wheelchair-accessible pedestrian trails that wind through each unique area.

The Jesse H. Jones Park is unique because of historic areas like the Redbud Hill Homestead, a recreation of a 1920s-area log cabin and homestead, and the Akokisa Indian village, a recreation of a local tribe’s village from the colonization era. Nature lovers will enjoy observing the different plant and animal species that call the park home, and if you want to learn more, there's a nature center on site that hosts many displays and mounted specimens of native plants and wildlife.

Throughout the year, you’ll also find annual festivals, nature camps, and clubs held throughout the preserve.

RC’s Pizza: A Kingwood Original

RC's Pizza promises to deliver authentic New-York-style pizza to Kingwood-area residents, and regular customers say this award-winning pizzeria it does just that. RC's is the brainchild of RC Gallegos, who started seriously experimenting with making his own pizzas as a teenager. When he realized that his home-cooked pizzas tasted better than anything he could order from one of the major chains, he opened RC's Pizza where you can enjoy a flavorful pie.

For a true NY-style pizza experience you should probably order a plain cheese pizza and fold each slice in half as you eat it, just like they do in New York. But the rest of the pies are good, too. The Godfather pizza is a favorite among customers and includes pepperoni, smoked ham, mushrooms, bell peppers, and red onions. The Texas pie is RC's tribute to local flavors, and uses a base of spicy, house-made barbecue sauce to offset chicken, red onion, mozzarella, and cheddar toppings.

J. Christopher’s Pizza Pasta: Italian Cuisine That Hits the Spot

If you love Italian food, J. Christopher's Pizza Pasta is sure to hit the spot. Since opening its doors in 1980, this Kingwood restaurant has been bringing all the best-loved classics of Italian cuisine together onto one menu. Order the house-made lasagna, featuring a double layer of ricotta cheese (and just might be even better than your mother's lasagna), or try the pesto ravioli, served in a mouth-watering marinara cream sauce. The pizzas at J. Christopher’s are always piping hot and full of cheesy goodness and can be ordered in both thin crust and deep dish styles.

For something a bit more unusual, dig into a creative import from Chicago's Italian community: penne pasta smothered in chili and topped with cheddar cheese. If you like it, keep your eyes open and you'll spot a number of other Chicago influences on the menu at J. Christopher's, including the sausage, which is imported directly from Chicago each week!

The Union Kitchen: Creative, Fun and Fresh

The build-your-own bloody mary bar on the weekends might be reason enough to visit The Union Kitchen. This Kingwood eatery is well known for fun and innovative ideas like the bloody Mary bar, including a menu that encompasses multiple global cuisines and a dash of Southern hospitality.

The ingredients used at The Union Kitchen are incredibly fresh since the chef makes twice-weekly visits to a local farmers market. If you go with a group of friends, consider ordering some of the small plates to share so that you can sample a range of different tastes from the kitchen. Try the tempura fried lemon topped with fennel, broccolini, asparagus, bell pepper, and just a touch of lemon oil. Pair that with a halved avocado stuffed with blue lump crab and cotijia cheese for a contrasting flavor profile, and pick out a few more dishes just for the fun of tasting.
